The Opportunity
Smart Tutoring Services is seeking capable, dependable and encouraging tutors who care about helping students build confidence and achieve meaningful academic progress. Tutoring opportunities may include individual, paired and small-group sessions from primary school through to VCE, delivered in person or online depending on student needs and demand.
What the Role Involves
As an STS tutor, you will:
• Deliver clear, structured and personalised lessons.
• Identify learning gaps and adapt explanations to each student.
• Use targeted examples, practice questions and high-quality resources.
• Help students prepare for classwork, assessments, SACs and examinations.
• Encourage strong study habits, confidence and independent problem-solving.
• Communicate professionally with students, parents and guardians.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare appropriately for every scheduled lesson.
• Arrive on time and maintain reliable availability.
• Record attendance and provide useful progress feedback when required.
• Maintain a respectful, inclusive and student-safe learning environment.
• Protect student privacy and follow Smart Tutoring Services policies.
• Hold a valid Working with Children Check before working with students.
Upskilling and Support
Tutors can strengthen their subject knowledge, lesson planning, communication and classroom-management skills through practical teaching experience. STS tutors receive access to structured academic resources, guidance and feedback to help them continually improve the quality of their teaching.
What We’re Looking For
• Strong academic results in the subjects you wish to tutor.
• Clear communication and the ability to explain ideas in different ways.
• Patience, professionalism, organisation and reliability.
• A genuine interest in student learning and development.
• Confidence accepting feedback and continuing to improve.
• Previous tutoring or teaching experience is helpful but not essential.
What You Need to Do

2. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview and a short teaching demonstration.
3. Be prepared to provide evidence of relevant VCE results, study scores or ATAR if requested.
4. Provide a valid Working with Children Check before commencing student-facing work.
5. Confirm your availability and complete any required onboarding before accepting lessons.
